UTS Capoeira Club
Goals and Objectives of the UTS Capoeira Club

Capoeira Studio
Capoeira has only recently been introduced to Sydney and there are still many people who do not know or understand this unique martial art, its history and its place in Brazilian culture.
The goal of the Capoeira Club is to introduce capoeira to the University and wider Sydney community. This involves demonstrating & promoting an understanding of aspects like:
- the movements of the sport, especially in rodas
- the musical instruments & capoeira songs
- the history and evolution of capoeira, and
- the role of capoeira in the Brazilian culture.
The Capoeria Club will organise a number of different events to support this goal:
- “rodas” will be held for members to learn and enjoy capoeira and provide an opportunity for members to play capoeira together
- The club will hold fundraising events and social BBQs to pay for special capoeira Masters to visit and teach club members and to strengthen club membership and relations.
- Members of the capoeira club will give performances as a way to promote the sport. Performances include a demonstration of the sport, music, Maculele (a folkloric dance), and capoeira and acrobatics displays.
- The club will produce a quarterly newsletter with articles about capoeira: the movements, history, music, prominent figures etc, information about upcoming events, a register of birthdays and photographs from occasional and special events.
Club membership is open to capoeiristas from any group, any interested beginners and also, any one who appreciate the art.
For students training with Professora Potiguara, there are classes at the UTS gym, Newtown, Glebe & Sydney Uni (see class timetable). The club will provide a positive environment for members to increase their fitness, learn new music and further develop rhythm, learn about self defense, learn acrobatic movements, learn about the Brazilian language and culture and have fun.
