About Capoeira
Capoeira is a unique Brazilian art form of dance and martial arts that combines self-defence, gymnastics, music, body and soul and ritualistic fighting. Excellent for health and fitness, coordination, balance and understanding Brazilian culture. Capoeira encourages a positive body image and develops confidence, self- esteem and team skills. It is a Brazilian martial art and health, fitness, exercise, fun, dance from the cultural land of Brazil.
Capoeira in Australia has been developing over the years though still relatively young.
History
Capoeira has a long and interesting history, from the african slaves to religious and ritualistic fighting. There are many legends and stories about the history of Capoeira. If you are interested in learning Capoeira, an understanding the history is a great place to start your training.
A Roda de Capoeira
The Capoeira game (jogo) is played in a unique way. It is played in the centre of a circle (called a roda) where the two people in the middle of the roda are not the only participants. The entire congregation is contributing to the game. There are rules, customs and fundamental ideas to learn.
